Buffalo Leech Care Information

Sorry.. I just came home from work.. You mean those safety hazardous submersible heater?? I don't have to.. My space heater heats up my room and the water inside my leech tanks for me.. Plus+ I have laser thermometer gun, which accurately reads the temperature in each of my leech enclosures especially their water. All i do is pull the trigger in this laser gun thermometer device and it will accurately read the specific temperature in each of my buffalo leech tank. I check the temperatures of their enclosures every week to make sure their required temperature remains constant, almost mimicking the tropics of their natural habitat in the wild. It always reads 30 to 31 Celsius night and day with no submersible heater involved at all. Back in my hometown in Dulag Leyte Philippines, buffalo leeches are even been known to survive temperatures of about 34+ Celsius while basking in the hot sun waiting for a host! I know this because i use to walked barefooted on flooded muddy rice paddy fields helping my grandfather plow the fields using water buffaloes as our only vehicles to get the job done. Most of the time we always encounter hirudinaria manillensis leeches while walking on warm knee deep water, and this water is even warmer than 31 Celsius folks! Its heated by the baking midday sun..

Hey no problem :-) Yea i change their water every week.. However, if any one of em regurgitates or defecates, i immediately change their water for sanitary purposes since i use em on my own blood only. Our waters here in Washington state are all coming from the mountain spring so i let the water sit for a day or two with an airstone bubbler in a bucket since the only chemical that they treat our waters is chlorine, no chloramines. Chlorine will eventually evaporate within two days with only 5 drops of water conditioner to totally remove chlorine. I constantly check on the leeches all the time to make sure they're doing fine. Hey thank you for letting me know you guys..
